Player Development ~ Mini Soccer

3 years ago By Paul Stephenson

We would like to remind everyone involved in Mini Soccer that, as far as we at the GJFL are concerned, the development of ALL players is far more important than any scoreline.

Already this season, we have noticed some heavy defeats and scorelines such as 20-0 do not really teach anything to either the winners or the losers. We therefore appeal to coaches of U7 to U10 teams (and U11 9v9 teams) to take a sensible approach in cases where one team is clearly superior to the other. For example, coaches could allow the team that is struggling to play with an additional player(s) to allow them a chance to succeed whilst the stronger team are challenged by the additional pressure that playing against more players brings; this is just one suggestion.

Thank you.
